Meet the Chief

Personal

Martin G. Rivera is a native Californian raised in Lakewood Ca. He started his Public Safety career in 1983 as a member of the US Army Military Police working in Mannheim, Germany and The Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  

During his 20-year career with the Army National Guard he worked a variety of specialized assignments including Special Response Team and an Army Liaison to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.  He went on to multiple deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, he currently is a Master Sergeant responsible for the evaluation and implementation of Military Police training programs, including policy development, and the statewide training infrastructure.

Chief Rivera started his tenure as a Hospital Police Officer at Metropolitan State Hospital in March of 2001. Chief Rivera has promoted through the ranks and most recently served as the Operations Lieutenant at DSH-Metropolitan.

Chief Rivera is a graduate of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Academy, and a recent graduate of the Government Leadership Program at Sacramento State University
